Ryanair's Digital Boarding Pass: Change is Coming 🚀

Ryanair is pioneering a fully paperless operation, set to begin on November 12th by discontinuing the acceptance of printed boarding passes. The airline is aiming to be the world’s first of its kind, and passengers will be required to utilize the “myRyanair” app for both check-in and boarding. Michael O’Leary, Ryanair’s chief, acknowledges potential initial challenges associated with this transition while highlighting the substantial environmental benefits – anticipating a reduction of over 300 tons of waste annually. Currently, a significant majority of Ryanair’s customers, approximately 80%, already leverage the “myRyanair” app for booking flights, purchasing extras, and accessing their boarding passes. This change offers increased flexibility, particularly for group bookings where one person can hold the passes for the entire group, or they can be distributed individually. However, travelers arriving at the airport without an electronic boarding pass will incur a fee, currently €30 in Spain, €40 in Austria, and €55 for the rest of the EU and Great Britain – an increase from the previous fee of €20.
