Paris Remembers: 10 Years of Grief & Hope 💔🔥
World News
On Thursday, November 13th, France will mark the 10th anniversary of the devastating 2015 terror attacks with solemn remembrance ceremonies across Paris and Saint-Denis. Place de la République in Paris has become a central location for quiet reflection, with people leaving candles, flowers, and messages at the base of the statue honoring the 130 victims of the coordinated attacks at the Bataclan theater, Stade de France, and six bars and cafés. A photographic exhibition, “comprising photographs taken … in the days following the attacks,” is also being held at the square, showcasing the widespread outpouring of solidarity. Throughout the day, President Emmanuel Macron, alongside Paris’s mayor Anne Hidalgo and representatives from victim’s groups, will visit each of the attack sites, beginning at Stade de France in Saint-Denis at 11:30 am. From there, the visits will proceed to the sites of Le Carillon, Le Petit Cambodge, and La Bonne Bière by 12:30 pm and 1:00 pm, respectively. A security perimeter will be in place around Stade de France from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm, with numerous streets closed to traffic, including sections of Avenue Henri-Delaunay, Avenue Jules-Rimet, and several others in the 9th and 10th arrondissements. Smaller ceremonies will take place throughout the afternoon, beginning at the Comptoir Voltaire at 1:30 pm, followed by La Belle Équipe at 1:50 pm and a tribute to the Bataclan victims on Boulevard Voltaire at 2:30 pm. Significant pedestrian and vehicle access restrictions will be enforced in the 10th arrondissement, particularly around Rue Bichat and Rue Alibert, between 11:30 am and 3:00 pm. Limited access will be provided via Avenue Claude-Vellefaux and Avenue Parmentier. Finally, at 6:00 pm, a ceremony will mark the opening of the new memorial garden, the Jardin du 13 Novembre 2015, at Place Saint-Gervais. Beyond the immediate remembrance, several exhibitions offer deeper engagement with the tragedy. The City Hall’s Jardin du 13 Novembre 2015 showcases items from the Terrorism Memorial Museum’s permanent collection, while the Carnavalet Museum offers a selection of anonymous tributes collected at the attack sites, alongside urban artworks reflecting the tragedy. Starting Wednesday, the Archives of Paris will host a display of numerous tributes gathered in the capital. Furthermore, the Paris Chamber Orchestra will perform Bechara El-Khoury’s compositions at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, allowing audiences to explore themes of remembrance and recovery throughout the week.
