Paris Still Bleeds: Jihadism’s Hidden Threat 🇫🇷🔥
World News
Ten years after the horrific attacks in Paris that claimed the lives of 130 people, President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed France’s unwavering commitment to preventing a recurrence. He stated unequivocally that “everything will be done to prevent any new attack and to ruthlessly punish those who would dare to attempt it,” referencing the ongoing sentence of 36-year-old Salah Abdeslam, the man responsible. Nine other members of the cell perished during the attacks or carried out suicide bombings, all claimed by the Islamic State group. Following these devastating events, US-backed forces successfully dismantled the group’s presence in Syria and Iraq. However, Macron cautioned that the threat of jihadism hasn’t vanished entirely; he described a new, “internal, insidious, less detectable, less predictable” form of the movement. “No one can guarantee the end of attacks,” he emphasized, “but we can guarantee that for those who take up arms against France, the response will be uncompromising.” France continues to actively monitor and pursue individuals involved in extremist activities, both within the country and internationally. Over the past decade, eighty-five attacks have been successfully thwarted, including six this year.
