World News
A 3.3-magnitude earthquake shook homes in northwest England on Wednesday night, according to the British Geological Survey (BGS). The tremor, which struck at approximately 23:23, was felt across Lancashire and the southern Lake District, including the towns of Kendal and Ulverston, within 12 miles of the epicentre located just off the coast of Silverdale, Lancashire, at a depth of 1.86 miles. Residents described the experience, reporting that it “felt like an underground explosion” and was “so powerful it shook the whole house.” The Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that “many residents felt or heard a loud bang” in the area of Carnforth, situated 18 miles north of Lancaster. Lancaster police also received reports of a “loud explosion” in that same region. Police stated that, while there had been no reports of injuries or damage, officers were deployed in the area alongside colleagues from the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service.
