ChatGPT Fixed: No More Annoying Dashes 🚀
Tech & Science
OpenAI has been actively addressing a longstanding issue with ChatGPT: the chatbot’s frequent use of em dashes, a characteristic that had become a recognizable marker of AI-generated text. This tendency was evident across a variety of contexts, including school papers, emails, social media posts, and even customer service interactions, leading some to criticize writers who were relying on ChatGPT and perceiving the em dash as a sign of dependence. For a period, OpenAI struggled to resolve this issue, responding to numerous user requests for ChatGPT to cease its use of em dashes. However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently announced a solution: ChatGPT will now respond to user instructions and avoid incorporating em dashes if specifically directed to do so through the chatbot’s settings. While ChatGPT won’t automatically eliminate em dashes from all of its output, users now have greater control over their frequency.
