Meta Wins! 🚀 Legal Battle Sealed 🔥
Tech & Science
Meta has successfully defended itself against a major antitrust lawsuit, narrowly avoiding a court order that could have forced the company to separate Instagram and WhatsApp. In 2020, the Federal Trade Commission sued Meta, arguing that the acquisitions of these former rivals had harmed competition within the social media landscape. The lawsuit centered on the idea that by absorbing Instagram and WhatsApp, Meta had stifled innovation and consumer choice. Meta countered this by highlighting its significant investments in those platforms, which had grown to become billion-user apps, and emphasizing the increasing competition from TikTok. Ultimately, a federal judge, James Boasberg, sided with Meta, ruling that while Meta may have held some level of dominance in the past, the FTC hadn’t presented sufficient evidence to demonstrate that it still holds that power today.
